Hello from Hutchinson KS!

The girls.

Tater is in the front and Tot is behind. (Tater's bill has more pink than shows in the photo, but who cares either way. Tater is a good name for a boy too! Lol)

Just chillin with their person, watchin some Littlest Pet Shop. She adores her "feather babies". This was only a day after she got them! They're eating kale out of her hand and peep for her when she has to leave them. She's pretty much beside herself! Great way to learn responsibility for another living creature. Her 7th grade sister.....? She's good with handling the cat. Thinks their cute, but I don't see here hanging around past the fuzzy stage. 7th. Grade. Gotta love it.

Tater an Tot are WH's, right? I asked on a diff thread about Tater's bill and the possibility of "she" being a "he" Tater's bill was lighter than the rest of the ducklings we chose from, except for Tot's of course. Someone answered that only in WH's could bill color indicate gender.... They look like all the WH duckling pics I've seen, including the large breeder sites. Sooooo, thought that's what they were. Ya take your chance on feed store chicks, I know.

No biggie either way, I just hate to breed ducks for the sake of breeding them. I would only want to breed them if I was helping one of the heritage breeds continue.

Welcome to BYC!

I've been to Hutch before! I grew up in Topeka, and we used to go to the state fair and visit the Cosmosphere too. Nice town you have there!

I haven't tried ducks but have thoroughly enjoyed our chickens, looks like you feel the same way about your poultry. Nice to get the kids involved in raising birds, that's an interest they can carry throughout their lives.

Nice to have you here!

Hello, and welcome to BYC!

I'm glad you joined our community.

Good luck with your ducklings! I've never kept any ducks before, but have always wanted to.

Thank you all so much for being so welcoming and helpful! And thank you NorthFLchick for the link! I was so relieved when I found BYC. Being a compulsive info gatherer, having a complete lack of patience and control freak (hence all the questions about one little duckie's bill that really doesn't make a diff in the end...) it's a HUGE COMFORT to know I have such a vast resource of experts. We DO love our new babies, and frankly, how could you not?! Lol. As far as Tater being a girl or boy, patience, Grasshopper! As the muggles say, "The truth will out! Yes?"

Hello Suzy!

I am in Hutchinson as well! We have 6 chickens and just broody hatched 11 chicks just the other day! Nice to see someone else from Hutch here!
