Hey, I'm new to chickens as of 7 weeks ago but I've been wanting them for several years (ahh.. patience & waiting for the right time/land/house). I have 2 Americaunas, 2 Barred Rocks, & 1 Black Star and all should be hens... I found out about BYC by using Google. It seemed like any time I did a search the answer was on BYC! I have one great wife of 7 years who was indifferent to my chicken fascination at first but soon was overcome by their crazy personalities! I have 2 young boys, ages 2 & 4, that I continually remind not to chase or manhandle the baby chicks. The 4 year old really gets it now and does a pretty good job....I can't say the same for my youngest! I also have a really chubby hound dog mix who seems perturbed by the chicks. She had one land on her a few weeks ago and ran away like a giant beast was after her!
