Hi Chicken Lovers!
Me, my husband and two teenagers have adopted 11 new baby chicks (from Orscheln's Farm & Home Store)
and are enjoying the chick stage but have yet to construct a coop. We've looked at plans and priced some
but wondered how many of you all have chosen a "pre-built" coop. I know it sounds like a cop out, but in
terms of time and cost of materials, $1500 for a decent coop for this many chicks doesn't sound bad.

Are we crazy?

I don't think you are crazy at all. Except you forgot to get ducks,too.
If you are from Kansas, maybe the munchkins will builds you a coop. Just stay away from the wicked witch!

If you splash out on a good coop now, you'll have space for more chickens later if you decide to get them. :P
I'm not much of a coop person though, ours came with the house, although it was in pretty shabby shape.

Welcome from one Kansan to another!

We built our own. I'd never pay that. You can recycle wood, buy a sheet of plywood and some chicken wire and be in business. You might run a search hear on coops, and see what all we've done. A chicken tractor works great here in KS. You make a frame, but tiny "building" on one end, and fence a yard to the grame. Put on wheels (12/ea) and roll it about. I think you'll find loads of cool ideas, so welcome from KS!
