I retired from teaching high school this spring. I had told my husband & kids that when I retire we would travel some and then I would get some chickens! (Chicken research on breeds-temperament/child gentle/dual purpose/ brown eggs and coops had been on-going for two years on the sly. ) After the first week of COVID-19 and binge watching The Tiger King my husband, son, & I decided this behavior is going to STOP! My son with his young adult energy who normally focuses on work and working out announced he needed a project that required activity.
“You can build me a chicken coop & run...” I suggested, knowing no big trips would be taken for awhile. “I can DO that!!!”, said he.
I ordered chicks and they ( father & son) ordered lumber & hardware cloth and got to work.
Chickens are now two months old and have brought smiles & laughter to everyone in the family.
We usually have our morning coffee while sitting on the front porch. Our coop is technically in the front side-yard so we now enjoy watching chicken antics with our morning coffee!

It is indeed!Hello and welcome to BYC!Glad you joined.
Sipping your morning coffee while watching the chickens is the perfect way to start the day!
We do! They have a swing they love! Three at a time will Line up on it. Some will run and try to jump on w/o loosing balance. Some like to go halfway up the coop ramp and fly across the run aiming between the hanging cords like a goal post! Thank you for the welcome!hi! glad you joined and hope you have good chicken/coffee time on your porch!![]()
