Hi all :)
My name is Justina and i really want to start growing some quails in my backyard.
Because I live in Los Angeles and it is nearly impossible to get some quail chicks :((((
Craigslist people have some advertisements, but I am having hard time reaching them.
I am a single mom of a 2 year old and the quails would be great pets, plus we could get some eggs from them :)

Any advises for an enthusiastic newby?

Have a look in the Where am I, Where are You? section for peeps in you rare. Maybe one of them can help you.

Thank you,

I am picking up 10, 2 week old coturnix quails tomorrow :) SO EXCITED!!!!
But I am going to have to drive about an 1 hour and a half to get there. I am so not prepared, but I thought I will have to deal with it when I get them.
Any suggestions ?

Hi and :welcome

I have never kept quails before. I suggest you check out the Quails section and ask any questions you need to there.
I just did a search for some older threads. Apparently you can feed quails with game bird starter. And put marbles in the water so they don't accidentally fall in.

Here's a good one:

I hope that has some info you can use on it. :)
Good luck!!

Here is my quail house finally, I worked every day for about two week to make two layers. Also it was very hard to find live quail for sale here and it took me 3 trips over and many hours of traffic to build my flock. I am so frustrated, because I haven't seen any eggs yet ... :(
The 9 at the top should have been female and laying eggs, but they are not laying eggs and they are missing some feathers on their backs. Any advice for that?
