Hello from Luray Virginia!

Ordered my chicks from Meyer as they do not have a 25 minimum. I Ordered 8 and after being on this site for a while realized the coop plans that I purchased said the coop would EASILY house 8-9 chickens, but it will only work for about 4....MAYBE 5. I ordered 2 barred rock, 2 buff orpingtons, 2 EE and 2 black Australorps. May seems so far off...ugh! Anyways, good luck here and with your chicken adventure.

Where about in Roanoke County area.....are there any restrictions as far as chickens go? How many can you have? This website is such a wealth of information. Some of it can even be a bit scary for a newbie like me. Good luck!

I live in Staunton Va. and have had chickens for 2 yrs give or take. This website is great.Lots of good people and good information.I got my first chickens from TSC,then from a private person and now I have ordered from a Co called welp.Yes you may have to order 25,but it depends on what you want to do.You can order half for eggs and half for the freezer.I find them very entertaining. The main things are draft free coops, predator protection, food and water, and the availability to get in the dry.If it is raining they will get in the rain,so don't be surprised.Good Luck

The house is in the Fort Lewis area of Roanoke County off Wildwood Rd. As far as restrictions I am honestly not sure, still got some research to do, but i know a couple people in much more suburban parts of the county that have 5 or 6 hens (really all i want).

I would certainly check with Roanoke County...nothing worse than a nosey neighbor causing trouble over 1 additional chicken than the area allows. A friend was told that Salem does not allow them yet...not sure that is correct though. Here in Botetourt up until a couple of years ago there was a limit even way out in the boonies of the Fincastle area. I had to look on line for a statement of rules. Actually, try typing the information for Roanoke County in here on this site, pretty sure it has been addressed here before. Just keep in mind...MAKE THE COOP BIGGER THAN YOU THINK YOU NEED!! Wish we had, now I am stuck with only 4.
Good Luck!
