Hello from Maine!

We experienced some expansion/contraction and the fastener was compromised. We had been blocking with 5-lb cinderblock. Also, fishers here in Maine need streams and the nearest stream is 2 blocks away and (fool me!) it was figured it would be fine. Well, they have hands! and are strong...and I had never in 6-8 years had such an experience. Well, look out - I'm taking the lead with predator precautions! I found them - so awful...
I researched the devastation - only culprit possible based on evidence - fisher!
I'm right there with you on fishers. There have been a few posts on the Massachusetts thread from those who don't believe they have fishers because they've not seen them. That's just like the bear and coyote populations. Just believe they are out there and if and when you do see them they have likely done their damage. Also, the fisher I saw in my yard was over 3 feet long. I believe he would be able to move a cinder block given motivation to do so.

Welcome! I grew up in Maine, but I’m now in Vermont. Boy, do I miss the coast. Rockland is beautiful! I’m so sorry to hear about your flock. My Rouen duck, Daphne, survived a Fisher attack that absolutely destroyed her flock. The man who owned her at the time was crushed and gave up his very few remaining birds (two ducks and a small handful of chickens) as he couldn't stand the possibility of losing the survivors. It’s wonderful that you are trying again. I can’t wait to see pictures of your new birds!

Nice to meet you.:frow
