from Washington State glad you joined us!
Whatever the breed you decide it sounds like you will give them the perfect home, enjoy!!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Happy New Year!
Soooo...We've been looking on-line at the different breeds out there....
My daughter loves the looks of golden/silver SEBRIGHTS and/or Spangled HAMBURGS...
ARE THEY AS FRIENDLY AS THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL??
Egg production is a lower priority. Julia wants to primarily hold and cuddle with them.

We also don't want them to fly away if we let them free range. Our large back yard is fenced, but only 4-feet high.
Thanks for your input!!
Sue.

If you want to hold and cuddle, the Silkie fits the bill.
It isn't too easy for them to fly the way their feathers are made up.
But that also makes them more prone to predator attack, as they can't get away.
I have had many birds lost to hawks, and you don't really know you have them, until they find the all you can eat chicken buffet in your back yard.
Something to consider, especially for any bantams, is a covered run for them.

Where you are I'd opt for

1. Buckeye

2. Rosecomb RIR

3. Buff Orpingtons.

4. EE's or Ameraucanas in a color you prefer.

I wish you well, but recommend NO heat.

Thanks so much for your suggestion--my daughter has fallen in love with the Silkie and after reading about them they are #1 on our pet chicken list!!! You rock!!
