I had browsed these forums for quite some time now, and realized I needed to become a member
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
When our daughter was four days old, my husband showed up after work with 4 day-old chicks. Needless to say, with a newborn, I was less than thrilled to have baby birds living on my kitchen counter (yes, that's where he put them!). However, after 15 years of raising chickens, I can't say enough good things about them - fresh eggs and less bugs around the house!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We currently have about a 10 hens, and one rooster
(3) What breeds do you have?
Quite honestly I'm not sure on the breeds of all of our chickens, but I do know that our rooster is a polish (mop-top), and we also have a silkie hen. We love the unique-looking breeds
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I discovered BYC from browsing the internet; this website has a wealth of information that has proven invaluable to us.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We live on 40 acres, and my husband built a campground at the back of our property. We love to camp, enjoy the company of our friends and family, and attending our kids' sporting events.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have a daughter that is off and married with kids of her own; we also have 3 teenagers. We own two Great Danes, a St. Bernard/Shepherd mix, 2 cats, 2 hamsters, and 1 millipede (that my daughter has been forbidden to scare me with, lol). Outdoors we have our chickens as well as 3 peafowl, 1 chinese pheasant, 2 emu chicks, and an extremely large snapping turtle lurking in our pond. Obviously, my husband is looking forward to retirement so that we can keep up with everything
