Hi everyone,
Rolling out my intro here....

I live in the heart of Minneapolis (North Mpls specifically, for those who know the area). For my day job, I'm an epidemiologist/researcher.

I'm not new to chickens, from 2010-2018 I had a flock of 6-8: first barred rock hens + rooster, then in 2016 added a few Brahmas (after 2 couple hens had passed), plus a neighborhood orphaned bantam of some sort I adopted. I had to rehome the remaining crew (which included 2 of my original barred rock hens - they lived to be 10 yo when they finally passed at their new home!) when I left town for grad school for a few years. Got my coop and run refurbed this past fall and I'm finally ready to welcome a new crew.

I'll be getting 3 buff orpingtons and 3 barred rock hens later in April from a nice woman who's willing to part with some of her 1 year olds.

My fav aspects of raising chickens: I've definitely missed having the delicious, vibrant eggs from my own hens, but honestly even more than that - I just love the presence of a small, clucking crew of feathered dinos meandering around the yard, sitting on my lap, being the little oddballs they are.

Other hobbies, pets, etc: we have two dogs presently (long history of adopting rescues and elder/health issue pups), one of which is old enough to have been around before I rehomed my previous flock. She wasn't chicken safe, so I kept her and the chickens always separate. I expect the same will need to be the case for our younger dog (Dachshund/Chihuahua mix) so I'm already planning/pondering some additional border buffering and measures for keeping the doggos from hassling the new girls. I bike around Mpls/St. Paul a ton, love exploring & photographing abandoned/industrial areas, sometimes teach at a college in St. Paul in addition to my day job, and I'm a total chaos gardener.

Looking forward to connecting, sharing and learning from other folks here!
