Welcome to BackYard Chickens!

Yes, you may have to rehome some cockerels. The best ratio is usually 1 per 10 hens. Or... you could keep them in separate flock ... or freezer camp. Congrats on getting back into chickens! Such a rewarding hobby. Best wishes with your flock!

We bought a couple flats of baby chicks when they were a day old. We didn't know the sex's. Some of them we are still not 100% sure of their genders....
Oh! I see another thread coming in the "Breed and Gender" forum.
Are you going to harvest or re-home the boys?

Welcome to BYC, Anna. I hope you enjoy the website and that it is helpful for you. I agree with the others-- 10 roosters to 24 hens is not a good ratio. If you are able to let some go, you and your flock will be better off. 1 or 2 is all you really need for fertile eggs. But remember, it is your choice, so don't let anyone talk you into doing something you are not comfortable with. We're here for you whatever you decide.
