Hi there!
My name is Jaycee, I am pretty new to chickens. My husband raised them all his life being a Montana farm boy. I purchased some chicks “for his birthday” last may. They have somehow become Mine lol.
I have two older roosters, I have no idea what breed or age they are. My previous two roosters were little red banties, they were not nice. Lesson learned no more banties for me. Out of 12 super cute buy one get one free late season chicks I picked up at the North40 all 12 made it and only the banties were roo’s. I have 4 black sex link hens, two partridge rock, a leghorn, and I think a Welsummer and two Ancona hens.
Santa brought me a really cool little giant incubator with auto turner, so I have some Svart Hona eggs coming and some blue black splash copper marans. Give those a try, hoping with all the info I can glean here that I will have a fairly successful hatch.
Provided winter shipping is kind and the postal service is kinder.
Ideally, I’d like to expand to 50/60 birds and be able to supply a small customer base with some neat coloured eggs. I love watching them, and spending time out in the yard with them and the cats, dogs, and our resident horse.
at our house CCL can stand for crazy chicken lady Or Cat lady... the cats and chickens share the coop indirectly and sometimes directly when the kittens discover the sun shines on the nests and go sleep in them.
We re built re purposed an old 10x8 shed on the property and penned in a large safe space for them to wander on. So far it’s working really well!
any how that was long winded! Thanks for reading it!
