Hey everyone!

This is a nice looking community! I'm a member of a few forums, but this is my first forum of this type

As a kid, I was used to being around animals as we had many chickens, a few cows, pigs, ducks, and one Tom Turkey that at food right out of our dogs bowl at the same time. The dog would get mad and bark, but it never slowed Tom down.

Anyways, fast forward to today. I'm 41 yrs old, I've been married since July 1991 and we have 2 wonderful boys. Age 15 and 11. Well, sometimes they aren't wonderful, but they usually are when they are asleep

We are about to get about 6 hens. We live in town. The best I can tell there's no specific ordinance against having them. We really just want them for the eggs and of course pets. I obtained a 12' x 6' x 6' dog kennel that I will line the bottom with chicken wire and I'm getting ideas about coops. This site should have me going in the right direction. I've seen some really good ideas and designs!

So unless the city shoots us down on having a few hens, I'll be hanging out here more and more!

from SE Texas!

Last January I decided to get a few hens for eggs...now I have 17 full grown chickens, 12 chicks in the brooder, and 7 eggs sitting under my broody Silkie hen. Beware - Chickenitis is a disease and everyone on this forum is an enabler.

I realize this could turn into an obsession. Just about everything I do does that to me anyways LOL!

Thanks again everyone! Hope you all have a great week and I'll be lurking mostly and making a few posts here and there.

Rick
