Over the last couple of years I have read posts from this site and found many of the suggestions by members to various issues quite helpful.

I finally have joined. I have 10 brown shavers as egg layers but also have collected a few extras just for my enjoyment. 2 Barred Rock/Sussex hens, one of these very broody ones has sat on some eggs and successfully hatched out 3 chicks earlier this year. One is a white leghorn rooster now, and the other two I'm not sure of their breed as the eggs I bought were a surprise mix! I also recently acquired some young birds, 2 Orpingtons and 2 Barnevelders. I particularly love the Barnevelders, they're are so beautiful but the settling in period was difficult as they're so shy and our brown shavers were extremely unkind. All is well now though.

Apart from the chickens, I keep busy with grandchildren. I also have 4 cats and one large dog. Our dog just ignores the chickens and wanders around amongst them, and they don't mind him either. I find that the longer I have chickens the more I want to collect more. I've become a bit of an addict.
