- you'll love this site. I can't imagine what a zoo it turns into when Burning Man is happening. Glad I don't live anywhere near it!
 
We're practically neighbors!!! Well, ok, there aren't many people where you live but I'm only 100 miles south of you between Reno and CC, near VC. You have to admit that this is one of the most beautiful places to live and the weather is generally great...except for the last 9 days ;-)

Burning Man...ahhh, never been either and been in NV almost 30 years...maybe someday. I'm just not fond of dust on the playa.

1, 2, 3...We acquired 6 RIR pullets from a guy in Reno that had them for 22 weeks and they just wouldn't start laying eggs for him, didn't want to feed the freeloaders anymore. (we got 2 eggs the next evening, suspect it had something to do with their former living quarters being a dog igloo in a run between runs with pitbulls) This Spring our daughter wanted to increase her egg sales (pays for text books most semesters with egg profits) so she raised 3 Delawares and 6 ameracaunas (EE's really) as well as 6 silkies for pets. Thus, now we need more chicken housing

4) suggested by a neighbor with chickens as a resource for good info

5) same teenage critter as you...and 3 little dogs that keep us pretty busy with agility and obedience, 1/2 acre of heaven that includes lots of veggie gardening, same little heaven that always seems to need work...this year painting the exterior, laying a small patio and walkway, re-habbing the back lawn, and moving a shed to our house for the chickens (and it is 25 miles away, will need to work on it when we finally haul it here)

6...school district empoyees here, only child who turns 18 this Fall and has been attending college for two years so far...probably 3 more to go for her BS and then another 2-3 on the coast for a masters in marine biology (yea, I know, the kid in the desert who wants to work at the ocean!)...I'm a medical biochemist (has nothing to do with what I do part time for the school but worked in a lab and then in pharmaceuticals), DH is an auto shop teacher...

Do you have a feed store up there or do you have to drive into Reno for stuff?

I guess I will have to wait a few more weeks till they complete their transformation from chicks to chickens!

Well, I always thought mine was an Araucana, but reading on here has made me believe it is an Easter Egger. I bought her at the local feed store, and she probably is not show quality, but I lover her just the same and she gives me green eggs. I recently bought two more! I hope they give me green eggs, too, better yet, would be if one gave me blue eggs!!​

No we don't sell feed here, I do pick up my feed in Reno when we go in for groceries. No...we don't buy all our groceries here! LOL! My wife loves her shopping and a weekly trip to Reno to "See the grandkids" is her ticket!

I've had this flock a little over a year. First had chickens in 1968 when we were living in Japan.

I have about 40 and 10 ducks.

Lets see...Standards: Silver laced and gold laced wyandots, RIR, EE, Buff Orpingtons, Australorps, white leghorns, black Jersey giants. Bantams: Cochin, Houdan, silkies, EEs.

Before getting chickens this time around I Googled chickens and found this forum and it's the best.

Hobbies...Chickens, scuba, chickens, quilting, chickens, gardening, chickens, knitting, chickens...Did I mention chickens?

I work for the state. I have Bailey, a Springer Spaniel, and Chloe, a mutt cat. My teenager is 35 and lives in Florida with his family but I raised my nephew and nieces and they live in Reno. We have 40 acres we are slowly trying to transform through permaculture. And Burning Man has a kids camp away from the adult activities.
