Hello! Previously I grew up on a hobby farm, specialized in reptiles in the pet industry, and volunteered at a large bird rescue. Last year, I moved to NE OK to be near my folks and landed a good employer that allows me some free time. I get to watch a mix of prairie birds and waterfowl here, and now I have a place to raise my own flock, but I still have so much to learn.

I'm starting with these four little mystery bantams from Ideal/Atwoods. I'm guessing the two black babies are Cochin.

This was a short bonding moment in a playpen, they have a proper brooder with heat and thermostat. Yes, I got pooped on :)

I also have a tortoise (marginated) and cavies (Silkie and Abyssinians). Veggies are a big deal here! 🥕🥬🥦🫑

I'll gladly take any advice about sterilizing coops and the surrounding areas. I am currently converting a nice insulated shed into a coop, but the previous owners shoved all kinds of junk into it and it is covered in old mouse turds.

If I choose to add more bantams, is sooner better than later, or should I start a separate small flock in a different brooder? I'd like to gauge my security and poop smell situation before adding more, but I am having a gut feeling that I have at least two roosters.

:frow Hello and welcome from SE MO! Think you are in for some rough weather tonight and tomorrow? I think you can add bantams to your flock any time since they are so young and they can grow up together. Since yours appear to be only a few days old, I would think the sooner the better! Cannot tell gender on your chicks this early from the pucs you posted, maybe others can. Clearer pucs of their heads, showing the combs MAY help, but at this age it is really hard to tell! Good luck!
