Hi there! My name is MichalBeth and I'm from the Green Country area in Oklahoma. I made my account a while back and have just been reading and absorbing as much info as I can before making my first post!

I am 19 years old and a college student, as well as holding down a part time job. I am majoring as a Vet Tech and love it! I live with my grandparents and love to help them! I have always been a sort of old soul. I have never had chickens before. This spring I tilled my first garden and decided that I needed some chickens to go along with it! We live on a good sized piece of land out in the country. So, I did my research and decided that having chickens would be do-able.

We purchased a group of eight chicks from the local Atwoods. (Of course, we went into the store with the aim of getting only a couple, we left with 8!) I brought them home and raised them for the first month in my house, as the Oklahoma weather was insane and way too cold for a while. We lost one chick during this time, a small bantam. It was sad, but soon, through word of mouth, we acquired three more bantams, a rooster and two hens. Thankfully, they are young (Around 4 months, my others are about 3 months old now.), so the merging of the two groups was rather easy. We have quite the varying breeds in our flock! We have 3 Barred Rock, 1 Rhode Island Red, 1 Buff Orpington, 2 Amber Star Hybrids, and 3 Buff Brahma Bantams. We love our little flock and they all have the sweetest personalities. Currently, they are all in a smaller coop and run set up that is close to the house. Since they have grown (They grow like crazy!), we are moving them into their larger permanent coop and run, one of our barns that we are modifying, today. I am so excited!

Other than my new found obsession of chickens, I also enjoy cooking, gardening, quilting, reading, watching movies, being outdoors, horseback riding, and photography. I also enjoy spending time with my wonderful boyfriend, who also loves the chickens. (Although he sometimes gets a little jealous of all the attention I give them!

) Other than my chickens, I have two dogs, Macie and Bella, a horse named Pilgrim, and a fish that sits on my desk named Mumford. I am so excited to have found this place, it's been a wealth of information for me already! I can't wait to be a part of the community here!

Welcome to BYC!

Sorry about the chick you lost. Sometimes they don't all make it. But the rest of your flock sounds wonderful!

If you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask. Enjoy your entire flock, including Mumford the fish, and welcome to our flock!

Thank you everyone! And yes, Mumford shall stay in his bowl!
