(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? No, I’m not new to chickens. When I was very young my mom would get me chick as a seasonal pet because she knows it won’t live long. We lived in the middle of Shanghai city. She didn’t like pets because she thinks they are dirty and too much work.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 1 female Easter egger, 4 BCM ( 2 Roo it’s been challenging finding home for them/ 2 Hens) around 6-7 weeks old. I also have 15 eggs in the incubator right now on lockdown day 3. (My anxiety is going through the roof because I haven’t seen or heard any signs of life yet, all I can think of is did I move them, touch them or played with the incubator too much …
(3) What breeds do you have? The eggs are : 2 Swedish flower, 2 welsummer, 2 brabanter, 2 favaucana, 4 ameraucana, 3 silverudd blue. I also went behind my husband’s back and bought 4 phoenix chickens fertilized eggs. ( we are both big fans of Harry Potter , I’m sure he’ll be fine with keeping 1
)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I want to be able to produce bright orange yolk and try for the first time backyard raised chicken eggs. Also I know my dad is an addict of eggs, I’ll be able to give him some healthier eggs vs the ones he buys on sale all the time for 2.99$ ( they taste fishy)
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? For now I enjoy spending time with my toddler.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I just became a mom 2 yrs ago, if it wasn’t for my daughter I’d still be working overtime and traveling the world. I also have a 3 yr old biewer terrier. He is very jealous. I work as a mental health nurse in corrections and I don’t have many friends.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? Every single question I typed in google search was either already asked by a member of your community or answered by a member of BYC. People seem to be friendly and easygoing. So I joined!
