I am 28 years old. Was born and raised in the willamette valley where I call home. I got my first chickens when I was 4 years old and have had poultry every day of my life since.
Now my 4 year old has her own chickens and gets to love on them every day.

I joined BYC to learn all I can to improve my animal husbandry skills and knowledge. I have learned a lot over the years from trial and error but sometimes its nice to learn without the "error" part.

I have banty and large chickens, banty and large ducks, Coturnix quails and a pet Narragansett turkey named "Gloria". I had geese years ago and hope to have geese a part of my life again soon as well as more turkeys lol.

I live on 10 acres and I raise Ancona ducks, Welsh Harlequin ducks and Australian Spotted ducks on a small scale. Over the years I have owned nearly every breed of chicken and duck there is. I also show my chickens and ducks on occasion and have a dozen blue ribbons proudly displayed in my living room.

My oldest hen right now is "Estelle" hatched spring 2008. She is related to chickens I had back in 1998. She is very affectionate and the 2nd most human-possessive hen I have ever had the pleasure of knowing 2nd to her half sister Lacie, my BFF who passed away in 2014. I will write a book (biography) about my Lacie. Her story is truly amazing, heart warming and inspiring and I hope to share her story with the world someday. Average people would view chickens so much differently if only they knew what I know about our feathered friends ❤

Hi there, fellow Oregonian!! Sounds like you really love your birds... and such a wonderful caretaker to have a 10 year old hen! Sometimes trial and error is the best way to learn but I hope you'll make yourself at home here and enjoy your time on BYC!

:welcome Welcome to BYC! :frow

You must take great measures to keep your chickens' welfare up to near perfection- it's extraordinary to hear of 10-yr-old hens! :th :clap

Here's hoping that you find our fantastic community to be overflowing with all the poultry info you could ever be in need of- and maybe you'll make a few lasting acquaintances along the way. :D
