Hello! My name is Rachel. I live in Oregon. Recently, our city chickens became COUNTRY chickens!! And I do mean country. As in, we're really lucky I still have my internets!!
I certainly don't know all there is to know about chickens, but I've done a LOT of reading on line, and have several chicken friends that I bounce ideas off of now and then. I started raising chickens in the summer of 2009.
I currently have 3 Buff Orphington mix hens, 5 2-3 week old pullet chicks (i hope) and what I think is a Black Sex Link Rooster (thanks you guys for helping me figure that out!) This summer I'll be adding four more pullets, bringing my total up to 12 hens and 1 Roo.
IF all of them are what they claim to be... in June I will have:
3 BO mixes (my original girls)
2 Barred Rocks
3 Golden Sex links
4 "barnyard mutts" (some combination of Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, White Plymouth Rock, Buff Orpington)
1 black sex link
I found BYC through my google searches for chicken information about two years ago when I first started entertaining the idea of city chickens.
I'm a little bit of a lot of things...
