I live midway between prescott and phoenix (climate and distance-wise). If I had to live in Phx, or even in black canyon city again, I'd get egyptian fayoumis or possibly penedesenca. Maybe andalusians (which I have now) if I had a lot of natural shade.
ETA: or if I got turkens again I'd get some local, Phoenix-adapted ones--the hatchery NNs I had weren't the best in the heat up here.
welcome @Evakin (Anthony)! I also live in AZ. I have four andalusians, and 7 midnight majesty marans pullets (plus two cockerels).
here's our state's thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/arizona-chickens.31227/
Also, (honest I don't get any endorsement fee), I like @igorsMistress 's desert oasis, I believe it's been updated also. Think open and airy, with electricity (fan) and water (mister) hookups nearby.
Best of luck!
Hello Anthony and welcome to BYC, You found an Awesome poultry Forum to be a part of with many great knowledgeable members who are more then willing to jump in and help you with any questions you may have.
Make yourself at home here and ask as many questions as needed. Good luck with the heat, definitely take advantage of evaporative cooling, wet the floor down and put a turbo fan on it. It will cool the floor and air 10+ degrees. Cool feet are cooler birds. Welcome to our community!
