Hi all, I'm Tisha and I'm new here from the desert. I grew up with chickens living in Lake Isabella, CA but haven't had them since I've been on my own the last 6 years. I moved to Ridgecrest a few years ago and now that my daughter is about the same age I first discovered my love for bantam chickens, I wanted to get a few. I've been begging my husband since we moved here to get them and he finally told me I can yesterday. Problem is, I have no idea where I can have them at in this town. I didn't even know there were rules about having hens in most places since I lived in a populated neighborhood with tons of hens and roosters and no one ever complained. All I want is a few polish or silkie hens (my favorites). Does anyone in my area know where I would have to live in order to make that dream reality? I'm in the middle of the city now but to my right is an empty lots and after that is an empty house. To my left is like half a lot sized space and then a small apartment building. So I pretty much have no neighbors but I still worry that I'm not actually supposed to have them. I don't want to move out of town but will consider it if I had to. Moving to Inyokern isn't an option as we have only one car and work conflicting schedules. I've read all through the municipal codes (or whatever its called) and still can't find any clear answers on what areas are chicken friendly. Is there anyone IN town that has them that can give me some direction? Thanks for any help and sorry if this is the wrong place for this, I've never used a forum site before.
