Hello from Santa Cruz, CA

I have had my backyard flock for almost 2 years now. I can't believe I hadn't found this forum before now! I love the plethora of information that this site has! Thank goodness! Now, I no longer just have to wonder and shrug when my silly chickens do 'weird' things! I would love to hear any advice the members here can offer.... especially those who, like my family, have their backyard chickens in the middle of a larger town!

Welcome to California wine country in the Western Sierra Foothills!

I lived in northern Monterey County for a zillion years and know Santa Cruz quite well. Didn't have chickens until I moved away, though... I lived in Monte Del Lago and chickens were not allowed.. nor were big dogs. AND residents were "expected" to keep their cats indoors. A guy down the street trapped cats and took them to the SPCA without saying a thing to neighbors. I DID see a chicken bookin' it through the "Mobile Home Community" a few times and wondered where it came from. Cant really say it was the same chicken, either. (That was before I started keeping chickens....)

I kinda can't believe you never heard of BYC before. J/K - but it IS remarkable!
