We just moved here and we are first time homesteaders, so we have a lot to learn! This site has been very helpful and we appreciate all of the information we have found here! We are almost done building our first coop with a run. We don’t have chickens yet, but we’re planning to start with six welsummer hens. I read they do well in this climate and lay nice eggs. We are not in a hurry though. I have started several chicken friendly plants in the run, so far. We still need to finish the roof on the coop and the fence, before we get some chicks. My husband is actually building three coops, each with a run, because he also wants meat chickens and one for chicks.

Welcome to the funny farm. You’re doing things right. Be ready for your birds before you get any. And love on them, when you do. Lots of love, makes for happy chickens. Happy chickens, makes for lots of eggs. And lots of joy and delight for you and your family. Good cluck with your new homestead.🐓
