(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes and no, my grandma had chickens growing up and I spent a lot of time with her getting to know her little farm. 2023 is the year where I take on herding chickens as "the adult" 💪🏻

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 8 chicks that are about 3 weeks old.

(3) What breeds do you have? Probably all brahma, but we'll see (thinking TSC might have mixed 1 or 2 chicks from another bucket into the bucket I was buying out of).

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I appreciate them being bug exterminators, but honestly, I love how goofy and unique they can be. My partner would say, he's excited to have fresh eggs again.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I'm an avid mushroom forager. I love photography, but I'm definitely an amateur. My garden is slowly growing to the point where I'll be completely self-reliant for food hopefully this year. But my favorite hobby is laying in the hammock after along day and watching the sunset.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I've been with my partner for 9 years, we have two kids (a toddler and an elementary aged kid), our rescue pup is some type of hound mix and he's maybe 2/3 years old.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome Dhelloommunity? :D
Pretty much ever question I typed into the search bar led me to a thread or 30 from BYC 🤣 y'all have helped me plan my coop, learn chicken first aid, build a brooder, and more.

Hi!! Welcome to BYC!
We've got some Bramahs as well. They are three days old or so.

Greetings Hello GIF

Great introduction, Cade! Congrats on your appreciation of chicken personalities, your acquisition of your own flock and on joining this wonderful community of truly helpful folks!

In Iowa, the morel mushroom is king, and folks who rarely leave the comfort of the supermarket spend hours tramping around, looking for the elusive fungus and keeping the location of their "hunting grounds" a secret. Just how avid are you? And what are your favorites?

I applaud your gardening efforts, your sunset viewing, your adoption of a rescue dog and the ability to parent two small ones, who are likely thrilled about the addition of your chicks.

Welcome to BYC; It's good to meet you!
