For my thesis research I worked with several chicken breeds (3 individuals per breed, I began with 5 but it took too much of my time!). The chickens I worked with were picked randomly out of a flock at the beginning and tagged with their own band (I worked with them at a selection farm for purebred chickens and commercial cross - Prelux) and after I was done with them for the day they went back into their flock of 100-200+ chickens. So I had to tag mine with something so that I could find them the next time I worked with them. They got aluminium bands but all barred chickens I tagged learned how to get them off, some in less than a day! Luckily I was able to find mine by sight and/or behavior towards me and the feeding dish.Interesting! What is the band on her leg for?
