Hello from Slovenia!

Interesting! What is the band on her leg for?
For my thesis research I worked with several chicken breeds (3 individuals per breed, I began with 5 but it took too much of my time!). The chickens I worked with were picked randomly out of a flock at the beginning and tagged with their own band (I worked with them at a selection farm for purebred chickens and commercial cross - Prelux) and after I was done with them for the day they went back into their flock of 100-200+ chickens. So I had to tag mine with something so that I could find them the next time I worked with them. They got aluminium bands but all barred chickens I tagged learned how to get them off, some in less than a day! Luckily I was able to find mine by sight and/or behavior towards me and the feeding dish.

very interesting I wish we could see a video of her stepping on the yellow . She has a very bright look to her eyes, you must be good at finding clever ones, that they can remove their leg bands.

I have all our training sessions on videos but the quality is rather bad (filmed inside the barn in a small space with lots of chicken noise in the background). Here's one of Črči working with different colored balance pods (she was still learning here)

The pecking is likely just a result of her association of pods with food, she shows her choice of color (always yellow!) by stepping on it.

I picked them out of groups by random. Just my luck I managed to pick the cleverest of barred hens.

Though by comparison to Styrian and Slovenian brown hens, the barred hens were a lot more outgoing and interested in new things. It's also a possibility that the other hens took them off from them. Every new object in their space was always thoroughly pecked by 150+ chickens...they probably ate them too, we never found any just lying around.

3 new photos of my little flock.
Styrians have finished molting and one is already lying eggs.

The prettiest hen around
