I live on our horse farm in Western Maryland with several horses, 2 rottweilers, several cats and our assortment of chickens
We have Golden laced Wyandottes, Dominiques, Americanas and Salmon Favorelles! All 4 of our roosters can be picked up, 2 of them at any time! Our eggs are a beautiful collection of colors, we sell a few dozen a week to friend/neighbors (sometimes it's almost of fight over them) They have a wonderful chicken house and are free-range.
We have had chickens for 3 years now.... who would have guessed how much fun they would be!? Work, but mostly fun. Now that we have an automatic chicken door, life is less stressful. Most people don't understand when you have to race home because you are worried about the chickens. Especially the ones that even have names.... I know you understand.
I have even been able to train our dogs to not kill the chickens! They actually protect them now. Somehow the chickens know if a predator is nearby.... run/fly into the dogs yard
People are always amazed to see our chickens right next to the dogs. Worth all my efforts.
Our chickens will be glad when our over 4 feet of snowfall is gone
All the best!
