Hello from South Carolina!

Oh no...that's too bad about your neighbors!
All they need to do is to follow your advice and their chickens will multiply. But stop talking because of that just doesn't make any sense...We want 'chicken crazy' friends, not just 'crazy' ones. LOL!!

When we found out we were moving to SC, we thought we were going to have lots of family visitors but none has shown up yet!
Well my husband side is all in CA and my family is in Japan so it may take a little while for them to decide on taking a looong trip. We have 4 kids so that keep us busy most of the time anyways, but can't wait to show off what we have around here to the city folks. lol

If you never visited Charles Towne Landing (it's a state park) yet, you should do it next time you come!!
We just went there last weekend. They did a great job renovating and it was so beautiful.

Nadine and Tmk hi from Beaufort SC. If you all have been to Hunting Island you drove right by my house. I also love it here on the coast. I spend most of my weekends on in the ocean fishing when I am not messing with animals.
I also work for the USMC doing pest control and own my own pest control company. So I have a lot of experience killing fire ants. I just Have to figure out how to do it without killing the chickens too.

Hello... I just re-discovered BackYardChickens, found the forum, found this topic and read through the whole thing. I moved to SC from Oklahoma last year, and gave away my flock before the move. I miss them, and am building a coop and hope to populate it soon.

Cocky, it seems like you know everything I need to know as far as finding a supply store in Georgetown. I am going to check out Lawrimore's today. What else should I check out in Georgetown? Also, is there a local place to get chicks? I want to buy specific breeds this time around.... is my only option the internet?

I am glad I found this forum, I look forward to checking back often!

Devildog- I visited Beaufort with my friend a couple springs ago. We stayed at B&B downtown and ate at a steak and seafood restaurant on the dock. We had a blast what a beautiful town!!

We went fishing and crabbing yesterday for the first time. We didn't catch anything big enough to take home but my boys loved it

We will definetly go to that fishing pier near Hunting Island this summer.
I guess I will drive by your house again then

Oh how awesome, Devildog!
Beaufort has some beautiful areas! I adore the sunsets and the ocean smells! My dad was a good ocean and surf fisherman but DD just can't seem to get the hang of it. LOL But that's okay, we just go to the wonderful restaurants and let them do it up right!
Bet you all got some raccoons down there for sure, too! One thing I remember is seeing lots of coons and gators. Poor chickens haven't a chance. ;-)

I finally got tired of fighting the fire ants with DE and Sevin Dust barely deterred them so I put a few sprinkles of Diazanon granules on the hill (didn't even have to mix it in) and the next day no ants but I can't use that anywhere where the chickens or horse can get to it. I know it will kill a horse since I had one to get in the tack room and eat half a bag and his kidneys shut down.
I really would rather go with environmentally safe products though.

tmk, I have relatives in CA, too. Haven't seen them in so many years because of the cost of travel but we talk on the phone every few months. I know no one in Japan. LOL You probably think a lot of us here are as crazy as I think my neighbors are. That's okay. Anyone who owns chickens can't really be all bad.

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum. I live in South Carolina as well. I am in the Upstate in Spartanburg County. I am glad to see so many people from SC on this board.

What kind of chickens do you have? Do you have adults or chicks or both right now?
