Hello from South Carolina!

Hey! I just registered today and I am from Leesville SC. I use to work at Riverbanks Botanical Garden - I "retired" last fall and am home tending 1 husband, 16 chickens, 2 corgis, and 4 cats (children are grown and on their own), and several flower beds. I am loving it! I'm glad to see others from SC and that I found this website. Even though I've had chickens (Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, and Sex Links) for 2 years I still have many questions. I'm happy to have found a place to go to with them.

Welcome scfarmgirl, are you talking about Batesburg - Leesville the home of the famous Shealy's BBQ. I love that place. I haven't eaten there in a few years, is it still open?

Welcome scfarmgirl!
I just passed Riverbanks Botanical Garden this past Sat. We had a show in Columbia. Whew! It was hot there for sure! Glad we were in an AC building. Of course, it didn't feel that much cooler when we got back up here to the foothills either.

Hi Nadine,

I have three Barred Rocks and three Rhode Island Reds, all pullets (I think). They are only three weeks old. This is my first time raising chickens so I decided to keep the number low and see how things go. We are in the process of building a chicken tractor.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes I live close (too close) to the world famous Shealy's BBQ. In fact we ate there Saturday for lunch and slept the rest of the afternoon! Saturday was probably the first really hot day here. I had been holding out turning on the AC for the month of May - but we had to turn it on Saturday and its been on ever since. Looking for the scattered t-storms they have been predicting.

Oh, these chickens are new for me, too, Heidi.
I just got our first ones in January. Then we decided to get a few more, then a few more and OMG, we are now in full swing with chicks! But we do love the fresh eggs and will hatch some out next year and put roosters in the freezer.
The Barred Rocks have been such good girls. One of the chicks jumps up on the side of the brooder and wants in my lap. She doesn't stay long, she likes to explore too much but she is very friendly. I love to go down to the barn and just sit beside the brooder and watch the 70+ chicks play and try to fly. Even as hot as it is! Our chicks range from 2 weeks down to the Silkies that are 1 week old.

Hi, I am in Greer, SC and raise Serama - straight feathered and silkie feathered. I have some nice incubators - if you're local and need to borrow one, just let me know. I keep them pretty busy but I am running out of chick room, so I need to slow down on hatching. I also have 8 white leghorns.

I can attest to Luann having some nice Seramas! They sure are pretty and in such beautiful colors. Wish I was more in the interest of helping to get them started in our area but those eggs are just too tiny to eat.

And I thought those leghorns were pretty cute looking girls! Thanks for the eggs, Luann! Your girls certainly lay some big eating size eggs.

Hello Everybody!
I am in Eutawville SC and I am new to the BYC club. I am a mother of 4 with a brand new baby granddaughter. (my first) I also have one on the way in December..( grandbaby that is) but we don't know what it will be yet...lol.

My husband and I are starting our mini farm and haven't picked out our chickens yet but are hopefull to get them soon. There are just too many beautiful breeds to choose from for me to make up my mind.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello to some fellow South Carolinians...lol
