Hello from South Carolina!

Quote:
Conway is 15 miles inland from Myrtle Beach so I can't imagine what town you would have been in but I guess it doesn't really matter.Nice to hear from you and how many chickens do you have?

Missprissy,
It worked! Thanks MissPrissy!!

I haven't been back to Winchester for ages! Is it almost time for Apple Blossom Festival?

Laura,
So do you sometime visit Isle of Palms too still?
It's always nice to have family members close by. I'm the only one in US, and my husband is the only one on east coast. I wish we live closer too...

Oh yea, and I'm proud to say, I'm the first and only one who have chickens in my family. EVER!

Hi tink!
I sure would be a model customer if there is one around here...Even though I only have two chickens right now.

Staying dry.....too late. Weather had been holding up for a while but it rained only when we went to Flowertown Festival.

scgamecock,
I even asked my husband where we went for those doughnuts last Saturday, and.....he had no idea what I was talking about 'going to Conway for doughnuts.'

He just told me to sit down before I cause any more damage by spreading nonsense. So it is official, no I've never been to Conway, and of course, you already knew that! lol

We have two old hens (they are mixed breed) that don't lay eggs any more. Friend of ours gave them to us when they moved into the subdivision that chickens weren't allowd (I know, what are they thinking, right????)
My husband and I are looking into moving to more rural area around here and when we do, I'd like some egg laying chickens.

I'm counting on you all's advise when the time comes!

Hey tmk, no I haven't been to Charleston in a least 30 yrs. My dad passed in 89 and as far as I know have no living relatives there. My dad was an only child and my Grandparents were up in yrs. when they managed to have him.

the Conway feed store has a good variety of chicks, and Lawrimores also sells them (in Georgetown).

But if you want variety your best bet is probably to order from somewhere like Ideal. I ordered my first flock from there last year and have really enjoyed this past year.

Missing SC a lot. Moved to bama about 4yrs ago. All my family is in a small town called Lancaster. Mom says I have relly turned into a country since moving here. Any words of wisdom for a newby? I have about three weeks and I will be a proud owner of my dominiquies. "Dominakers" as they are called here. I am seriously thinking about going back and getting one of the hens he already has, but they are so use to having a lot of room, and I want the pleasure of getting them as biddies and raising them, don't know if that is a beginners mistake, but I feel that will help me with the learning process. And for all you NC people most of my dad's side of the family is from there. So hello to all and any words of wisdom would be helpful.

Laura,
Hey
smile.png
I finally made it to your personal page here today! And found out you have a flock about the size I'd like to have one day.
Some of your breeds are what I'm interested in getting also...I will be asking you some questions when the time comes,,,beeeeee aware

In meanwhile, here is one.
I've read Araucanas are the ones that lay Easter eggs. But do different color eggs come from one hen or each hen is designated to lay one particular color??---I'm still learning stage of anything about chickens, but egg shell colors are so fasinating to me!

Cocky,
Oh goodie, thanks for the info!

Other than providing us with more things to love and care for and all over learning experience, hopefully my "future" chickens will give us some eggs and also help for my "future" garden (in the form of compost).
So I only want to have a flock of about 10. (more or less)
Now minimum order from Ideal is 25, is it?
In that case, would ya say I should look around locally??

Do you have lots of chickens?
Have you posted any pics of your chickens and/or coop here??

Hi bamadominaker
big_smile.png

I envy you that you are getting yours soon!
I have two old hens I was givien from my friend, but I would love to raise chicks. That will be one of the things I definitely will do once we settle into our new location. Till then, I enjoy reading everyone's posts and learn from them.

Please post your footage of becoming a wise chicken-mama!

Hi other South Carolinians!

I'm in upstate SC, out in no man's land. Almost to the NC border right above Greer.
We have Cochin chickens with a bunch of chicks due soon.
Hope to meet some of you here and chat chickies.
