Hello from South Carolina!

sunshineinsc,
Have you tried the Market Bulletin? Our state ag paper? You might find an Australorp in there. Though mostly I see only roos for sale.

chikkinlittlesc,
You have some of the breeds I have. The Silkies, Cochins in standard and bantam but I have EE's instead of Ameracaunas. One day I'll get some but for now the EE's may give us a variety of color in our brown egg laying group.
I don't mind mixed breeds. Though I still like to have breeds I recognize, I am willing to try a mixed breed for eggs or meat.

Wow! I can't believe I've missed so much posting on the SC thread. I've been spending waaay too much time doing non-BYC related stuff.

Welcome, Hiedi! We're in Spartanburg County, too. We have 3 Barred Rocks, 3 Rhode Island Reds, and 3 Black Australorps. They're about 4 weeks old right now. We got them straight run, so at about 8 weeks, we'll need to put an ad in the paper for the roos. My husband is really hoping for 6 hens, but we'll see...

howdy! i grew up at myrtle beach but now we live in cowpens, near gaffney. glad to know there are poultry people in the palmetto state!

pokey!

Cowpens isn't too far from me. There are several of us in the Spartanburg County and Greenville area.
Lucky you growing up near the beach, though we seldom visit the Myrtle Beach area. I did spend a week each summer there as Dad liked the Charters out of Murrell's Inlet.
One day we will all have to get together and see about a "buy, sell, trade" thing. Are you looking for anything particular? I am always finding another breed I like! There really shouldn't be so many!

Hello all again.
I have 10 Silver Laced Wyandottes, 10 White Jersey Giants, 5 Ameracanas, 6 Rhode Island Reds, 5 White Rocks, all a few weeks old. Around 10 Light Brahmas from a few days old to two adults. A trio of silkies with a lot of young. I would like to add some cornish to my flock too, but can't find any around. All hanging out in Beaufort SC.

I recently asked the same thing, Hiedi.
I think there may be a Bantam club in Anderson or Clemson. You would certainly think there would be something in Clemson but that is still too far for me to drive except to go watch a poultry show, which I think they are having over there in Nov.

Devildog, we thought about getting some Cornish X in Sept to raise for 10 weeks and then it would be cool enough to slaughter them. But we are still thinking about it as we are currently behind on all the coops we would love to build for all the chickens we want to get!! LOL Good thing we have land to put all the coops on because we are always finding something else to long for. Too many nice breeds out there!

I agree; I feel at home being around so many people from SC.

Nadine,

You are right; Clemson should have some kind of poultry club, one would think. I will try to do some research and see what I can find out.
