Welcome aboard! Im in the blue ridge mountains in Virginia. This is my first winter with chickens and I can tell you everything is a bit harder and a bit more worrysum in the cold. If your instinct tells you to wait until spring, I would wait, unless your friend is as generous with taking care of your birds in cold windy conditions as he is with his advise.
