Just a quick hello from My family to yall. We are just getting started raising chickens. My kids and wife are interested in Easter eggers and lots of brown eggers. From what I have read on this forum RIR for brown eggs and Ameraucanas for easter eggers. We have an old shed turned coup that is 10'x9.5' inside which i added 8 external nesting boxes, and an outdoor run that is currently 10'x8' with provisions to add on later as $ permits. I also plan on allowing them to free range in our back yard ( about 1 acre) after my dog and cats get used to them. We eventually plan on raising chicks, but for now starting with already laying hens. Any suggestions on how many would be comfortable and breeds to get? Thanks in advance!!

Glad you joined us!

You can get quite a few into a coop that size, but if your planning on getting chicks later, perhaps you'll want to start slow? How many were you thinking you want?

I would like to end up with about 20-25 birds. We love eggs and have neighbors, family and friends who would like to buy them from us. I am also not worried about thinning out my flock for the table once we decide to try some chicks.
