I’ve been raising chickens for eggs for about 20 years now. We have mostly had Easter Eggers and always a few assorted breeds and the “bonus” chick that always turns out to be a rooster. We have kept the roosters and fortunately they have all turned out to be nice guys.
We do not sell the eggs but provide them to family and friends which is always greatly appreciated.
I’ve already learned a lot from reading your posts and look forward to learning more. Right now, I’m mainly interested in the debate about whether or not you should try to encourage your chickens to lay eggs in the wintertime or if you should let them have a nice long rest and return to laying when the daylight gets longer.
Thanks in advance for your advice and support!
