Hi, we just bought our first house with 33acres and it came with a co-op already on it.
Seriously considering getting chickens for eggs and meat. Plus maybe a few ducks.
I have 4 kid's and a couple dogs. I'm not sure how to go about getting everything set up for poultry and how to explain to my autistic son that they are food not cuddlie furry friends.
I've also never had birds before so I'm a little nervous.... Lol
Nice to meet everyone:-)

Welcome to BYC, and congratulations on your new home. Click on 'The Learning Center' located at the top of the page, then go to the forums - study, question, plan and you will be good to go. Good luck in establishing your flock.

There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around the run.

The Learning Center is a great place to start. Your state thread members may be of help to you also...just type Alaska in the search box and your state thread should come up.

I agree with drumstick diva...maybe keep 1 special chick for your son, chickens make great pets.

It's nice to have you here!
