Just wanted to introduce myself. We've had chickens for a year now, we started out with 8 last spring (4 white leghorns & 4 red sex links) We lost 2 throughout the year. The remaining 6 are doing great! 6 eggs every day! We're still not sure we did the right thing, but it was hard to resist...we got 6 more chicks this spring! We were a little more selective now that we know a little more what we're doing. We got 2 buff orpingtons, 2 Ameracauanas and 2 Australorps, that is provided that they gave us what we requested, still not so sure about that. I've come to BYC to hopefully get some answers to some questions we've got and learn a little more about caring for our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about the ones you lost, the others sound like they are doing great as well as they are laying for you! When they new babies start laying you should have a really colorful egg basket. TwoCrows gave you some great links to get started on BYC!. If you have questions about the breed of the chicks you have you could post pictures on the What Breed Or Gender Is This forum https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

Hello Chicken World! I hope I'm doing this right...LOL I'm new to this board but not new with raising chickens. We started raising chickens 7 years ago when we moved up here to TN from FL and my husband at the time started us off raising chickens. He was wonderful with them and also became a member on this board. He passed away 2 years ago leaving his chickens with me to raise and I've so far done pretty well with them. I have hatched eggs here from our hens and going to hatch Buff's this Easter. Unfortunately, I had to order from Ebay some hatching eggs because little did I know you had to order way in advance if you wanted some for a certain date but that's ok, they are on there way and should be ready for incubation in a week. I ordered Easter Egger chicks from a local feed store and have my brooder in my office (looking like a nursery for babies...lol ) waiting for their arrival. I'm also wondering if I can have Silkie babies chicks and raise them with my easter eggers? If anybody can help me with that information please feel free to respond......I'm open to suggestions.
