Hello all,

I have been raising American game for about 4 years now and i love them, they are very hardy and have a strong spirit, but they don't lay to many eggs and are no good to eat.

I am looking forward to getting some good dual purpose hens but don't know what breeds would be good, also are the eggs safe to just pick up and take to the stove? or are there things I should. watch out for?

from Ohio.

plymouth rocks, wyandottes, australorps, orpingtons, rhode island reds, new hampshier reds, and dominiques are a few good dual purpose breeds. all are brown egg layers.

Orpingtons are a good dual purpose bird.Fresh eggs are great. I grab my eggs in the morning wash them and fry them up. If I am going store them I do not wash em till ready to use.
