I've actually been lurking on the forums for over a year, since my husband casually mentioned that maybe we should consider gettings chickens to help with pest control in our yard. We went to the local feed store last spring and got 3 chicks: 2 buff orpingtons, and 1 australorp. They just turned 1 last week, and have become absolute egg laying machines this spring.

Unfortunately our yard size and county ordinances don't allow for more than 5 chickens, and while the coop design we purchased said the end result should house up to 6 chickens... I don't think they meant chickens of the orpington variety. But that doesn't mean that we can't dream, and we already have a list of other breeds we'd like to add to our flock someday, if we ever move to a bigger property.

I don't have any recent pictures of the chickens on my computer, but here's a shot of the girls a few days after we got them:

And this is Henrietta at a few months old:

Lovely chicks and Henrietta grew up to be a pretty girl! Glad you are enjoying them.

It's nice to have you here!
