Hi, Im So Glad Ive Found This Forum,my 8 Year Old Son And His Dad Have Spent The Last Couple Of Weeks Building A Chicken House And Run At The Bottom Of The Garden,we Have Always Talked About Getting Some Chickens And Have Decided To Get The Plan Into Action!! The House Should Be Ready By Friday So We Can Go Get Some Chickens At The Weekend. I Have To Be Honest We Dont Know Much About Chickens So Im Now Going To Have A Good Read Through The Forum And Im Sure Ill Be Back With Questions!!!

welcome! i started out here for all my chicken info too!

you are VERY wise to have the coop done first, before getting birds!! (alas, i was not so wise!)

chickens are really wonderful, enjoy!

thank you for the warm welcome guys, still reading up...!!! lots to find out, main concern was if i could mix different breeds as my husband wants a good egg layer and me and my son want something cute, cuddly and friendly !!! i love the silkies so am still reading up on what other breed i could put with one as we are going to start with 3 chickens to see how we get on. one each!! i dont care if i dont get many eggs from the silkie ,they are just too cute ...!!

currently i am in plymouth, but my fiance is looking for work and wants to move to manchester. so we are not really settled here. i am also new to the forum and still reading up on chickens and coop building etc. so i don't actually have any birds yet. when we are settled i would like to get some buff orpingtons as i read that they are quiet, calm, friendly and FAT!!!

i think they look so beautiful and they are excellent egg layers but tend to go broody. oh well, you can't have it all. just as stated on the main page, you will find this forum addicting!! good luck haha!
