My wife and I live in a very small town, it doesn't even have a grocery store; Dollar General, but that doesn't really count in my mind. We want to have a few (4) hens but with the current ordinance it would be illegal. In reality, we probably could ask our neighbors if they minded, and with their unanimous consent, build a coop and get them without any issues. The little town is one where if you bother me, then it's illegal, if not then go for it.

We don't want to do that, we want to be legal and I think we can help change the ordinance in our favor.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello there and Welcome to BYC!

Lots of members do keep hens where they are not allowed. And usually they have cleared it with the neighbors and all goes well. But you can work to get those laws changed. Mountain Peeps has given you a great link to follow. I hope you can get these laws changed and keep your birds legal.

Good luck and welcome to our flock!
