hi I was given alot of mixed breed chickens from cute downy covered chicks to full grown bit mean tempered rooster(but he is oh so pretty) about 3 weeks ago. I am absolutly lost but so in love :) My girls (ages 4 and 6) are learning together. at this time everyone but the babies are just freeranging however im trying to find out the best way of protecting them(coop, health ) I appriciate any and all advice . thanks for reading and be blessed

Hi and :welcome

It depends on the sorts of predators you've got in your area, I suppose. We have no predators so our chickens just free range however they want, but the most secure coops are covered from above and also have the wire fencing at the perimeter buried a little way underground.

I hope you find all the info you need here, and enjoy the site. :D
Good luck with your chickens!

My main predators= kids and dogs.......kids are learning that you can handle the babies too much (still working on overfeeding them) but the dogs well lets just say I now have an indoor husky and an indoor lab x so any suggestions on that situation would be extremly helpful.....thank you for the welcome

Hello and welcome to BYC

Dogs can be trained not to catch chickens, but I haven't done it myself. I've been told showing them the chickens and telling them in no uncertain terms not to try and catch them helps.
