Hello!
I have been raising chickens since I was a kid, though back then it was a family flock. Last year I started my own flock of chickens, and I couldn't be happier. There is something so pleasing about collecting eggs every morning. Generally I raise chickens for the eggs, and for their kitchen-scrap zeal, and I keep the guineas for bug control and occasional meat. I have three groups of birds:
13 chickens, who live with 3 guinea hens that think they are chickens. That flock is made up of Ameraucana, Black Stars, a Buff Orpington (Daisy), a mystery rooster (McMurry), and a hen I was told was a Blue Lacewing (Piper).
15 guinea hens that roam the yard. They are theoretically pearls, but they look to me like they have a bit of lavender in them.
14 Khaki Campbell ducks, 10 of which I hatched last December.
I am a mechanical engineering student. I love to design and build things. Along with my birds, I breed American Chinchilla rabbits. I also have an Irish Wolfhound named Sampo (Sam for short).
I have been reading the forums here for years, more so in the last couple, and it seemed well overdue for me to make an account and have a voice.
It is a pleasure to meet you all!
