Er, yes. Hello! ^^;
"6. Make a BYC page for yourself. Your pictures and ideas will likely help some lurker who is too shy to post or ask, but is reading, reading, reading for info."
- 'How to be a good BYC citizen'
The line above is so very true. I've been lurking at BYC and the Forum for weeks now, and indeed I'd be lost without all the reading I've been doing here! The coop pages and search bar saved me a thousand times over when I got confused over anything
.
And now, well, I finally worked up the courage to join (Or perhaps I'm just addicted already o.0).
Well, I'm not so great at introductions, but luckily I have the Sample Questions to answer. Hopefully they help XD.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
People around here have always had chickens, including loud roosters in the middle of town. But I myself had never kept them before, despite going to the feed stores every year /just/ to look at chicks. I got my first chicks perhaps a month and a half ago, in a case of 'They're cute, let's take them home' - 3 Ameraucanas. They served as the perfect test to see if we would really like to have chickens around. Turns out, we really would. After the 'three stooges' were given away as gifts as planned, to a friend who raises Ameraucanas, we got more chickens...And then a couple more. A pattern here, I see! o.o
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently, 12 from 2 new batches ^^.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Now, this is what I haven't figured out yet. They're all from the 'Bantam Bin' at our local Big R. So I know they're bantams but...other than that...I'm lost. I was hoping later on some kind people here might help me figure them out. I'm sure I don't have any now, but am fully intent on eventually some Silver Sebrights and Seramas.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Google. I was investigating keeping chickens, and I found BYC. And I'm glad I did!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Drawing, writing, computer...A million other utterly random things. Do mice count as a hobby? XD.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My family, well, I'll only count who I live with. Because then it's simple - my grandmother. She used to keep chickens 'umpteen' years ago and when her family did they had bantams. Mutts as far as I can guess, which somehow didn't get eaten by the hawks we have around here. "Mean rooster." is all my grandmother will tell me when I ask how
. If I switch from 'I' to 'we' all the time, try to ignore it. The chickens are my idea and my project, but family pets, so both apply XD. Other pets...Hahaha XD. We have a lot. 9 cats, 11 kittens, 3.5 dogs(Chihuahua XD). And then 17 or so mice(haven't counted the newest babies), a bird, a lizard, fish I dare not count. The critters I catch and release are always coming and going, like spiders and snakes. Plus now the chickens!
The mice actually made keeping our chicks easy. Breeding and raising mice meant I already had the perfect chick brooders(Tanks made to keep mice in) and bedding, all we had to get was suitably Chick Starter and, for the little bantams, we got a heat lamp
.
Eek! I've rambled...I do that when I'm tired. My apologies!
