Ugh, I know the feeling. I am driving my two boys partway to their new home tomorrow. Gonna miss my "girls!"I'm in a dilemma right now - it seems my Maggie should be Mikey. I did not plan on having a roo just the three hens. Hopefully the co-op will let me exchange him. I paid $20 each for three layer hens about 6 weeks ago. Only one is laying so far the second one looks ready any day she has been squatting for a few weeks now.
Good for her! I have a hen that doesn't tolerate any shenanigans, the un-gettable get so to speak! Because I didn't have enough hens for the boys to spread the love around, I got the girls some really well made, well fitting hen saddles. These were great at protecting their backs during times I couldn't separate the roos from the hens and until I could rehome them. This morning he got on top of my one hen that is laying and wouldn't let her go. Held her down and had his way for about 30 seconds. After he was done, she got up and proceeded to kick his butt all over the yard for about 5 minutes.
