Hello from West Virginia

Thanks everyone. I have some chicken stories. I guess the two that stand out the most are about raccoons and rats. I'm not sure if treadle feeders work or if they existed 10 years ago, but I will be buying one. My old chicken coop was a 12x16 area that I fenced in with hardware cloth that was under my garage carport, we made a weather protected roosting area and had them for over 2 years. Rats took over, they tunneled out under my garden room and caused the floor to crack. I tried every thing, they ate through wires and gas supply lines. Fortunately the lines were shut off. Other story was more serious, I was losing chickens in my fort knox coop. Concrete footers, 6" treated post as the plat on the footers and 1/2 hardware cloth to the rafters, boards filling spaces between rafters and something was still getting in. Turned out Raccoons were living in the attic of the garage and we did not know it. They were simply coming out of the attic into the coop through the rafter spaces on garage side. Live and learn.

Looks like it was eight (8) years ago when I got rid of my Chickens. I had an account when I tried to log in. Seems I had two posts 8 years ago. This time I purchased a commercial coop that is free standing well away from my garage.
