This is my first flock of chickens, we recently got our little babies, I’m so excited to watch them grow!!! We have 18 chickens, because we had 13 and then baby bantams yelled at me in the store and I had to bring them home and my son begged for an Americana. Now I’m not aloud to go buy feed or go anywhere near places that have chicks. I have 12 sex links, 1 Buff, 1 Americana, and 4 Bantums. So far my favorite aspect is getting to know their very different personalities. But I am looking forward to the eggs and garden manure. My hobbies include, gardening, painting, building things, reading, and sewing. I’m married to the most amazing woman, we have two kids, we’re finishing up training to do foster care. I’m a stay at home mom. I found BYC a few days ago when I was trying to figure out iF I just raise their lamp to make it less warm or buy a different bulb...

Raising their heat lamp can help to reduce the heat (just make sure it is totally secure). And you'll want it at one end of their brooder, so the chicks can self-regulate their body temp by moving in and out of the warmer spot.
