In the Brooder
Hey all!
I've been reading threads for a while and posted a couple times before but didn't properly introduce myself.
My wife Whitney and I have two Golden Comets that we got in June of 2020. It was completely new to us but we've learned so much over the past year and a half. We only have our two sweet girls right now but have had Wyandottes on the mind for many months now, so come Spring maybe we'll have a couple more.
Our favorite aspect of having chickens has just been the affection and joy they give us. We could have a rough day at work or really been feeling exhausted from everything going on in the world or being glued to a computer screen all day, and they just instantly improve the day whenever we break away and go outside to be with them. These two are very sociable too so they'll run right up to you and make all sorts of excited noises, especially when they discover new bugs under the leaves.
We're in Takoma Park, Maryland - just outside of Washington, D.C. At our little downtown is a small statue of Roscoe the rooster, who was found roaming the streets of TP years ago and now has become a mascot of sorts for the town. We feel quite at home here, especially since at least two of our neighbors have their own backyard chickens and a couple others have had them before. We've even been visited by one of the chickens, Garbanzo, down the road who has a knack for escaping.
Whitney and I both work in media. I work for the Washington Post and do graphics for video stories. When I'm not at my computer, I look forward to camping, hiking, and spending time outside gardening, which is now even more interesting when you have a couple of little ones trying to help you dig things out now.
So glad to be here and thank you for the wealth of info and expertise here! Here are some pictures of our two hens, Rhubarb (Rhubbie) and Lavender.
