Hello i am Carol I don't have my chickens yet i do have my coop . I am in Gilmer Tx and am having a hard time finding laying hens to buy.

Hello Carol, and welcome to BYC! :frowGlad you joined.
Buying laying hens or even started pullets is tough. I suggest you raise your flock from chicks.
How large is your coop in ft x ft? Is it an open air design? That would be ideal in your climate.

Welcome to BYC fellow Texan : )
Try Craigs List for your area for hens.
I'm not sure how far Gilmer is from Canton, (I've never been to either place) but I have been told that at the flea market every month they have all kinds of animals for sale including chickens. That might be something to check out.

Glad to meet you and welcome to BYC.

It's probably also a tough time of year to find pullets ready to lay. Most of the chick business is just starting up now. You can get chicks from many places right now, from farm supply stores to local hatcheries to large online hatcheries where you get a really wide selection of breeds. Here is a great blog post on how to find healthy birds, whether you are looking for chicks or pullets. If you go live in person, you should also notice how clean and well cared for are the facility and the birds.
