(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I have raised chickens off and on for about 35 years

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I only have two chickens, and one guinea

(3) What breeds do you have? one buff orpington, one Americauna mix and 18 Black Copper Maran eggs to hatch

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? searching for hatching information

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I spin yarn, design, knit and crochet, I am a fiber artist

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I have a galoot of a Golden Retriever,Hunter, and his pal Brandy that is a mutt.

Thanks for the welcome Redsoxs. I am from Hillsboro, where are you located? I am setting these Black Copper Maran eggs as soon as I get the incubator set up. I have another dozen eggs coming from AR next week. I have been doing a little reading about this breed, I guess they are tricky to hatch. The eggs are chocolate brown and have rather thick shells. I will need the luck I think.
 
I love Kansas- spent a lot of time in Topeka and Lawrence last year working on a TV show.

1. My family just started with chicks in March. We got our first egg about 2 weeks ago from our Blue Cuckoo Marans.

2. We have 10 hens.

3. Breeds include Blue Cuckoo Marans, Gold Laced Wyandotte, Blue Cochin, Amberlink (we think-it's a rescue), a Production Red (we think-it's a rescue), Black Copper Marans, Buff Cochin Bantam, Silver Penciled Wyandotte Bantam, White Silkie Bantam, and an Ameraucana or Easter Egger Bantam that I have no idea the color.

4. Known about it from research and work.

5. Gardening and raising kids is about all I can make time for but I love slipping out to fish now and again.

6. Wife, daughter, son, 3 cats, 2 dogs.
 
Thanks for the welcome, you have quite a variety of chickens there. Lawrence is one of my favorite cities to visit. Always something interesting happening.

Thanks, I have much to learn. The first time I did this it was very easy. I hope I learn enough fast enough to get some chicks.
